3 Announcements regarding upcoming events:
  • Tonight, Chris Berardi will speak for our Sunday Night Live.  Please join us at 6:15 for supper and 7:00 for a program.
  • Franklin Graham said, Every shoebox gift is a tangible expression of God’s love that brings joy and the Good News of Jesus Christ to a child in need.  It is that time again!  Please begin filling your shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child.  This year, we are asked not to include toothpaste or candy.  Brochures and information are available for your use when preparing for this mission project.  We will begin collecting shoeboxes at our church Sunday, October 29 through Sunday, November 5.  Please bring your shoebox gifts to the Fellowship Hall or to the church office.  Thanks for your participation.
  • The NC Symphony will perform in Tarboro at ECC December 6 for its annual Holiday Pops Concert.  Tickets are $25.00 for Adults and $10.00 for Students.  Please see Ann Warren if you are interested in purchasing tickets.

Sermon Synopsis: Sunday, August 13

“Displaced” by Rev. Caroline East Berardi

Scripture: Psalm 121, @ Cor. 4 and 5, selected

 Last Wednesday, we were surprised to find that what we thought was a delayed maintenance issue with our walls, was far more serious.  Our sanctuary was declared unfit for use.  Decisions must be made for our small, rural, deeply faithful church.

 We could say ‘it is just a building,’ but we know it is more than that.  While we are thankful to have a fellowship hall we can use for worship, the sanctuary is God’s house, and our home.  It is where many of us have been married, baptized our children, attended the funerals of loved ones and sung God’s praises for year after year.  It was given to us as a hard-won inheritance from parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents in the faith who sacrificed so that we might worship God in such a space.

 Nevertheless, we remain hopeful, trusting in the God who created us, redeems us, and sustains us.  We will continue in our ministries, mission and programs.  We recognize that God’s people have often been transient- Jesus, after all, was born in a barn!  In anxious times, we hold on to the truth of the Psalm, “From where will my help come?  My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.”

August 15 Cooking Class

Edgecombe Community College will offer a class focusing on cooking garden-fresh vegetables which are being grown in the Pinetops Community Garden.  Mr. Joe White, chef and caterer of Myrtle Grove Catering will be the instructor.  The class will be held Tuesday August 15 from 6-8 pm at Pinetops Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.  The cost for the class is $35.  To register, contact: Ann Warren, 908-1240, Kathy Webb, 813-4697, or Gwen Hyman, hymang@edgecombe.edu.

The 2017-18 school year will begin soon, and as a church we traditionally provide school supplies for our local schools. The following are general items needed by most children who are in need of supplies.

Sunday July 30 Service

Today, we extend a warm welcome to Tom and Brenda Boberg who are members of the Pinetops Baptist Church.  They live in Farmville, NC and have four children and five grandchildren. Four days a week Tom is an RN at Vidant Home Health and Brenda is the Executive Director of Family Support Network at Vidant Hospital in Greenville, providing support to families of hospitalized children. The other three days of the week are spent in ministry.  As National Coordinators with Church Renewal Journey and Evangelism Catalyst with the North American Mission Board  they travel throughout the US and have been in 6 different countries encouraging God’s people and introducing people to Christ if they have never met him as Savior.  In April, Tom and Brenda were in Romania for the third time ministering to the Roma people. Today they will share about God’s work in the poorest gypsy villages.

Today, we will collect Pennies for Hunger.  This offering is used for local missions.  Thank you for your generosity.
