Community Garden Update – March, 2018

Monday, March 5th, 40 students from South Edgecombe and Carver helped plant cabbage, broccoli, potatoes, onions, kale, turnips, mixed salad, blueberry and blackberry bushes. The first planting of 2018 was a great success. Please ride by the garden, watch it grow and feel free to stop and pull a weed or two whenever you have time. In eight to twelve weeks, we hope to have some fresh veggies for everyone to pick, to enjoy and to share.

The community garden is partnering with Down East Partnership for Children and Carver Elementary to sponsor a Community Gardening Event at Carver School two Saturday mornings in June (June 9 & June 16). The event will target grades K-3 children and parent(s)/guardian(s) and will focus on Gardening, Literacy, and Nutrition. This event will require an application which will be distributed to students and families after Spring Break. More information will follow.

We will plan a second planting for summer vegetables mid-April.

The  next meeting of the Garden Committee will be at Pinetops Presbyterian Church April 9 at 6:00.
